Bedsores – A Common Health Risk

Choosing the right mattresses or choisir matelas for providers of healthcare providers had been increasing in demand. This is so because they are seeking for well and improved services for patient care. This is particularly true for patients who are bedridden for a long time, for individuals who are cared for at home and older adults who are susceptible to develop pressure ulcers or bedsores due to the absence or deficiency of mobility.

Since there are numerous challenges in healthcare triggered by bedsores or pressure sores, the National Institute of Health has bestowed a researcher of the University of Pittsburg a grant amounting to $2.6 million to learn more about technologies specifically on hospital beds that is paramount to avert and alleviate the wounds and injuries produced by pressure sores that if not treated can lead to severe infection and even demise.

For most individuals who have no choice but to stay on the bed or wheelchair because of immobility, moisture, heat and constant pressure or force are the main causes of pressure ulcers or bedsores. According to David Brienza of the Health and Rehabilitation Sciences of the University of Pittsburg and a holder of a doctorate degree in electrical engineering, the funding will be used to research and study air loss levels in prevailing technologies that are planned and intended to create a healthy micro-climate for the skin of patients. These existing equipment and technologies mostly work by absorbing or drawing off moisture from the skin with the assistance of air that is circulating under the bed of patients. The research and study will then give emphasis on how moisture and heat is transported and how operational and effective these systems are in decreasing the possibility of bedsores.

Furthermore, Mr. Brienza pointed out that patients having bedsores is a concern and issue that doesn’t appear to be improving and that there are numerous innovations that don’t seem to resolve the said issue. Additionally, he also stated that the bed plays an important role in healthcare.

Presently, there are a lot of advancements today that hospitals use to address this issue on bedsores.
